It was Dorothy Frances Gurney, who wrote those famous words, and once again we experienced it to be true as John and Marian Cresswell hosted their annual coffee morning and open garden event in aid of Action for Children (previously known as the National Children's Home) — the grand total of £254 was raised, the highest figure for some years.

As well as enjoying coffee, tea and cake, visitors were able to wander around John and Marian's magnificent garden, enjoying it's beauty and finding inspiration. There were also plants and cuttings to purchase enabling those who came to take a little piece of what they enjoyed home to their own gardens.

It was perhaps too good for the group of 12 year olds that went out on 30th June in temperatures not far off 30C!
