SAS — Service After School

Service After School (SAS) is a GAP initiative and is our take on "Messy Church".

It is mainly for children in Primary Schools and their parents and carers. It is held once a month in term-time in St Lawrence Church on the second Thursday of each month straight after school.

The children arrive, around 3:15pm, do a signing in activity and then enjoy some refreshments. After this, there is a story, song and prayer based on a theme and then a whole range of activities for the children to do.

Usually there are about ten adult helpers who come from the churches in the Greater Alton Project and they organise the activities and serve refreshments. These are designed to explore the message of the story — as well as being fun to do. The activities involving something to eat are always popular!

We are well supported by the clergy who come when they can and often tell the bible story, based on the theme.

Sometimes the theme runs for several sessions, for example the overarching theme of 'Love' has been explored for three months. The first was 'Love God' and we had the story of.the Prodigal Son, 'Love your Neighbour' was based around 'The Good Samaritan' and 'Love God's World' was about taking care of the world.

If you are or care for a child of primary school age, then do please come to St. Lawrence Church, after school on the second Thursday of the month during term time or All Saints Church on the second Wednesday of the month..

The service is open to children from any school. It is very informal. The adult visitors can get involved in the activities if they wish, or use this time for a chance to chat. Activities usually finish by 4.30. Come and see what is going on.

If you would like to be involved in this work please have a word with one of the clergy.

Everyone is welcome.
